About

I have been the Head Ghillie at Riverdale Hall Hotel for over ten years, welcoming anglers of all levels — from complete beginners to seasoned fly fishers, from the UK and abroad. I take great pride in sharing my knowledge of the river, helping guests develop their skills, and ensuring every day on the water is an enjoyable and memorable experience.

I’m always happy to talk so don’t hesitate to call me on: 07528193091 If I’m on the river with clients just leave a message and I will return your call just as soon as I can. You can also email me at adam@onthenorthtyne.co.uk

Most frequent question – Customer

A full day with me on the river includes personal tuition, local knowledge, and guidance to help you get the most out of your time on the North Tyne or Main Tyne. I’ll tailor the day to your experience and goals — it’s all about the experience and enjoying the river.

I can supply tackle and flies if needed, but please bring your own waders where possible. If you’re unsure what to bring, just ask before your trip and I’ll be happy to advise.

Due to weather and river conditions, guiding fees are non-refundable — but I’ll always do my best to make the day work. Sometimes that means adjusting times, changing beats, or focusing on technique rather than just the fishing.

Absolutely! I welcome anglers of all levels — from complete novices to seasoned fishers. I enjoy helping beginners learn the basics and gain confidence on the water.

I guide 1–2 people per day as standard, with the option for up to 3 experienced anglers for a small additional charge. Group and corporate days are also available — please inquire for bespoke pricing.

While I don’t provide accommodation directly, I work closely with Riverdale Hall Hotel, which offers both hotel rooms and self-catering apartments just a short drive from the river. It’s a great place to relax after a day on the water.

Spring (March–June) offers a great chance of catching an early springer, while summer and early autumn bring opportunities for both salmon and sea trout. Each month has its own charm on the North Tyne!
